The Packet is once again joining Vodafone to honour unsung heroes in the South West who have saved a life.

The Vodafone Life Savers Awards are a unique annual search for inspiring stories of men and women who have saved the life of another in extraordinary circumstances.

The Awards - which honour all those who work in the emergency services, as well as ordinary members of the public - are endorsed by a host of celebrity ambassadors including John Nichol, Nell McAndrew, Martin Kemp, Annie Lennox and Gary Lineker.

They are also personally supported by the Prime Minister, who hosts an annual reception at Downing Street for the Top 10 National Life Savers.

The Packet is joining forces with Vodafone UK to honour the region's unsung heroes and the public are being asked to help.

The Awards recognise the vital link that mobile phones provide between the public and the emergency services when minutes matter in life-threatening situations.

So, if you know someone who has saved a life in remarkable circumstances during the last two years, we are inviting you to share your story with other Cornish readers.

If your nomination is selected as a top story, you and the Life Saver you nominate will each win a Vodafone live! with 3G* mobile phone. The phone also has a built-in camera and allows you to download the latest videos, music and sport and even send your news and pictures to the Packet as it happens.

We are seeking individuals or crews who embody the spirit of all those unsung heroes within our emergency services, whose work is so often taken for granted.

Equally, our winning Life Saver could be an ordinary member of the public who has shown outstanding courage or initiative when confronted with a life-threatening emergency.

So, whether you have a personal experience of a life or death situation, or you know someone whose selflessness offered a vital lifeline when hope was fading, we want to hear from you.

Remember, the rescue must have taken place in the last two years.

Our top Life Saver story will automatically secure a place on the South West Shortlist and if they are chosen as a Regional Winner, their story will then go before the National Judging panel.

If they go on to be selected as one of the Top 10 National Life Savers, our winner will be on their way to meet the Prime Minister at a Downing Street reception.

Tell us, in no more than 500 words, why your nomination should be considered. Don't forget to include the name of the rescuer and the person/people saved, plus a daytime telephone number. Send your nomination to: Newsdesk, Packet Newspapers, Falmouth Business Park, Falmouth, TR12 4SZ or e.mail editorial@packetseries.co.uk Mark your entries Vodafone Life Saver.
