TRURO CITY 15
BACKWELL 0
WITH several of their starting 11 playing in another competition, it was never going to be easy for Backwell in their Toolstation Western League division one away match against promotion-chasing Truro City on Sunday, and the White Tigers ripped into their opponents from the start.
City entertained throughout and were ahead within 30 seconds when Reski drilled the ball home from a cross. Seven minutes later it was two when Yetton converted with his head from a Reski corner.
The goals continued to flow and after 20 minutes Pope's effort was going in and was aided by a deflection off Watkins. Three minutes later it was four when Reski scored his second from a Gosling cross and two minutes later Watkins made it five.
City increased their lead to seven when Reski scored his hat-trick on 43 minutes and Yetton added his second on 44 minutes. If Backwell were hoping City might ease up they were wrong and on 48 minutes Watkins completed his hat-trick which was shortly followed by a goal from Lee Coxon.
Leading marksman Yetton had a goal disallowed but completed his hat-trick when Watkins unselfishly played him in to score number ten.
City had to wait until the 70th minute to add to the tally when a Reski effort was foiled only to be thumped into the net by Hoyles with his first touch. This opened the floodgates and soon Watkins had scored his fourth and City's 12th goal thanks to Gosling's cross and a minute later Hoyles got his second.
The hard working Gosling scored on 76 minutes to make it 14-0 and then Backwell were then reduced to ten men before Coxon completed the scoring on 86 minutes with a diving header.
With second placed Portishead playing third placed Ilfracombe this week, City's promotion may be gained by next Sunday's match at Longwell Green.
Scorers - Truro City: Watkins, 4, Reski, 3, Yetton, 3, Coxon, 2, Hoyles, 2, Gosling.
TRURO CITY 3 CADBURY HEATH 0
City maintained their charge for promotion on Saturday with their 27th league win of the season with a 3-0 victory over Cadbury Heath, and, if they had converted all of their chances the margin would of been far greater.
This was one of City's best performances of the season as the team took full command early on.
City fielded a strong side for the match and Chris Reski enjoyed a good day on the wing and was often a major contributor to City's attacks.
The White Tigers took the lead on 16 minutes when Hooper converted with a powerful header. Yetton was lively throughout and found the Cadbury Heath 'keeper in good form, stopping certain goals on a couple of occasions.
Although City played well the final touch and cutting edge was often lacking and brave defending by Cadbury Heath, who blocked numerous shots with their bodies, denied City on many occasions.
It was only on the stroke of half-time that City scored their second goal thanks again to the head of Hooper.
The second half saw City 'keeper Butcher make only one real save as Truro powered forward again, but some stout defending and the woodwork frustrated City.
Joe Broad placed his shot wide after he had created a good shooting opportunity and Yetton shot over from three yards with the goal at his mercy.
However, it was the crowd's favourite Yetton who increased the lead on 80 minutes when he swept in a cross from the right.
It was richly deserved victory and at the final whistle Truro City were three points nearer to promotion.
Scorers - Truro City: Hooper (2), Yetton.
