REDRUTH centre Brett Rule showed ice cool nerves to kick two penatlies in the last ten minutes to take Simon Blake's Redruth side into the final of the National Colts Cup after a pulsating game in front of a crowd of 600 at the Recreation ground.
The Reds started slowly with Paul Teixeira making a try saving tackle on Stortford's Sam Winter. But with the Redruth front row playing strongly the Reds got on top in the 20 minutes leading up to half time. Flanker Ben Fox, who had a very good first half, managed to touch down in the 30th minute to give the Reds a five to nil lead at the break.
Bishops Stortford showed the qualities that won then the trophy last season when they dominated the first 24 minutes of the second half with full back Joe Clarke kicking two penalties to give them a single point lead with 11 minutes to go.
Redruth raised their game and Rule kicked his first penalty from the 22 metre line to the left of the posts with ten minutes left to regain the lead. Redruth dominated the closing stages and Rule adding a second penalty to round off a magnificent victory.
