AS a result of the fantastic scores achieved in the One-Minute Badminton Rally Challenge, held throughout the country in October, a party of seven of the Under-17 Cornwall Youth Badminton Juniors were invited to the Badminton England headquarters at the National Badminton Centre, Milton Keynes, earlier this month, writes John Tresidder.
The Cornish results were: 1, Claire Whitmore (Carnon Downs) and Daniel Johnson (Liskeard) 140; 3, Emily James (Falmouth) and Tom Lyle (Launceston) 132; 4 ,Bronwen Wotton (Leedstown) and Luke Bristow (Truro) 131; 5, Luke Bristow (Truro) and Henry Sherwood (Callington) 130.
Chief executive, Mr. Adrian Christy, presented an overall cheque for £1,461.40 to an NSPCC representative.
Following the presentation there was a marvellous opportunity to watch England's foremost ladies, Gail Emms and Tracey Hallam, in full flight during a training session.
The highlight of the day came when all the winners were treated to period on court, playing games and receiving coaching tips from top England coaches, together with the elite international players.
Emily Weller, the National Schools' Officer was thanked for her sterling efforts in making the day so memorable.
