ILLOGAN 7 MULLION 2

THIS 7-2 demolition of Mullion took Illogan to within three points of becoming Jolly's Combination League champions.

It was a curate's egg performance by the home side that - although scoring seven goals - should have been won by an even bigger margin such was the disparity between the sides.

It took Illogan just seven minutes to take the lead when Andy Hill ran on to Gary Sturmey's pass and gave the keeper no chance with a fine finish.

Four minutes later the keeper was picking the ball out of the net again when Hill's shot was parried but landed in the path of Ryan Treloar who made no mistake.

After 29 minutes Illogan were almost out of sight when they scored a third goal. Ryan Treloar, who had earlier flashed a shot across the face of the goal, beat the keeper from an acute angle with a great shot from 25 yards.

The woodwork and the keeper denied Illogan more goals, but seven minutes into the second half Mullion punished the home side's complacency when Ben Stidwell headed in a cross.

After that it was one-way traffic to Mullion's goal and in the 59th minute Hill tucked away the fourth after a good run and cross by Sturmey.

A minute later Illogan snapped up a fifth when Rodney Gregory ran on to Tom Hogarth's pass and beat the keeper with a dipping shot from outside the box.

Mullion showed some spirit by grabbing a second goal when Hogarth's backpass hit Danny Burrows on the chest and Matt Fox pounced to snap up his chance to score. Illogan finished with a flourish when Hill converted a cross by Treloar and Stuart Peters shot under the 'keeper after a good pass by Gareth Pitt.
