IN heavy rain Redruth ran in 12 tries most of which came from top-class team play as Redruth chalked up a massive National League II victory over Bradford and Bingley.

Redruth opened with a cracking try by Rob Thirlby in the third minute. The visitors, who played solely through their pack, contained Redruth for a long period but two converted scores just before the interval took the Reds in 21-3 clear. In the second period the visitors, already relegated, had few answers as the Reds ran in a further nine tries, several from moves inside their own 22.

Luke Collins, who has had an outstanding season in the second row, suffered a serious ankle injury in training and opened the door for Richard Carroll who has had a difficult season through injury and suspension. Sam Harrison deserved his chance to start in the number two shirt with Peter Joyce on the loose head.

Before the match a minute's silence was immaculately observed in respect of the Truro Colts captain David Winkler who was tragically killed in an accident in the week.

Playing down the slope, Redruth opened at a cracking pace and Rob Thirlby, to the delight of the crowd, came in from blind side to take a pass from PJ Gidlow and cut the Bradford defence to ribbons to touch down at the posts for Mike Hook to convert in the third minute.

With their physio unable to travel Redruth's Paul Hancock covered treating Bradford injuries and early in the game he had to tape up a thumb injury to Bees Tongan international Bradford played a pick and drive game - Fakatou is difficult to bring down - and three successive penalties took play to the Reds' line. After trying to drive over the line on three successive occasions Bradford released the ball for fly half Stuart Dixon to drop a goal from in front of the posts in the 32nd minute.

Darren Jacques replaced Joyce as Redruth started to drive through the forwards to pull in the Bradford defence and it brought two tries just before the interval by Carroll and James Mann both converted by Hook.

Following a strong talking to at half time Redruth opened the second half full of running, Bonds putting Rob Thirlby over for a try in the 43rd minute to claim the bonus point, Hook converting.

The Reds cut loose from off the top of line out ball by Mark Bright, Tim McBride came in off the blind side wing to take a pass from Hook and glide imperiously through the Bees' defence to touch down at the posts after a 40 metre run, Hook again adding the extras.

From the restart Redruth ran the ball from their own 22, Mark Richards and Bright swatting aside bees defenders to set up a try for Bonds, Hook again converting.

A run from Hook led to a try by Gidlow who was playing a superb game in midfield.

Another length of the field move saw Bonds touch down his second try to bring up the half century with 20 minutes to go, Hook converting.

On the half hour mark Gidlow touched down a second try which was converted by Hook just before Carroll touched down Redruth's 10th try.

Then running from their own 22, Redruth cut the defence to pieces as Paul Thirlby ran 50 metres for a solo touchdown converted by Hook.

In injury time McBride took a kick out of defence by Bradford on the half way line and cut through a very tired defence to set up replacement Chris Fuca for an unconverted score in the final play of the game.

Hook who struck the ball immaculately all afternoon bagged another 18 points to take his league total to 245, 13 points short of Rob Thirlby's record. With two games to go Halifax away next week and Stourbridge at home on the final day of the season (April 28), Hook looks set to create a new record.
