THE Stanley Dale competition was held at Mullion Golf Club on Sunday held in memory of Stanley Dale, the head greenkeeper at the club in the 1930s.
In somewhat inclement weather - thick fog at the start but clearing slowly later - made it a testing day for the 70 golfers attracted to the competition.
Lester Ashton, though, found the conditions to his liking and appeared out of the fog with an excellent score of plus-six to win the Stanley Dale trophy.
Lindsey Dale and Alan Lieske also returned a score of plus-six, but were beaten over the last nine holes.
Results - Division One - 1, Lester Ashton - +6; 2, Lindsey Dale - +6; 3, Alan Lieske - +6. Division Two - 1, Kevin Oliver - +5; 2, John Kew - +4; 3, Richard Harvey - +3.
The Dale family were present for the prize giving and Claire Dale, grand-daughter, presented the prizes.
Mullion Golf Club Junior Section held their first monthly medal competition of the summer season on Saturday. This was the first one of six played throughout the summer months, with the best four out of six individual scores counting towards winning the Alexander and Michael Cup.
Results - Division One - 1, Luke Geach - net 63; 2, Jack Irwin - net 65; 3, Kirsty Hopkins - net 69; 4, Ben Williams - net 66.
Division Two - 1, Craig Sadler - net 63; 2, Max Irwin - net 67; 3, Keenan Foster - net 71; 4, Tommy Carson - net 74 On Bank Holiday Monday Rebecca Pitt won a ladies' section charity competition, the Ladies Arthritic Cup, with an excellent score of 39 points, cutting her handicap from 18 to 17. Close on her heels was Sue Johns losing on countback, but reducing her handicap to 26.

Mullion Golf Club Junior Section joined forces with Mullion Eggs to play a Greensome Stableford competition for "The Eagle Trophy", which is played for every year during the Easter holidays.
Jess James, the Eggs captain, and Kirsty Hopkins the junior captain, led off the field of 46 Eggs and Juniors in almost ideal conditions.

Mullion Golf Club Junior Section played their annual Easter Stableford competition on Saturday when all the prizes were chocolate eggs. This proved to be very popular with all the competitors, who returned some very good scores.
