TORPOINT 6 MULLION 1
TORPOINT went into this Women's Cornwall League semi-final fixture clearly the under-dogs, against a Mullion side who hold second place in division one.
Torpoint took control of the game very early on, as Mullion's very poor form continued, and gave very little away.
Mullion found it hard to settle into any pattern of play as Torpoint dominated most of the game. This paid off with an excellent through ball from Donna Gage that found the feet of suzi Green, whose persistance paid off as the Mullion defence struggled to clear the ball, Green cooly taking the ball pass both the defenders and the 'keeper to score in an empty goal to make it 1-0.
This inspired Torpoint to continue pushing forward and they soon got their second from a classic Lambert goal.
Mullion showed very little resilience as Torpoint continued to press hard and some attractive football was being played. The home side went into the second half determine to continue where they left off and an early attack down the left resulted in a corner. Gage, quick thinking, gave a short ball to Lizzie Putt whos accurate cross found the head of McCann to make it 3-0 to the home side.
Torpoint's fourth goal came from a great run from down the right by Caz Putt, which resulted in Mullion's Tina Mills handling the ball in the box. Lambert stepped up and confidently placed the ball into the right corner to make it 4-0 to Torpoint.
Mullion did have some good play in spells, but never really looked dangerous. Torpoint got their fifth from a strong solo run from Lizzie Putt whose determination to chase down the ball from a poor clearance gave her the opportunity to fire home from close range.
Torpoint's final goal came from a Gage strike that took a deflection from one of the Mullion defenders. leaving the 'keeper with no chance.
Mullion scored a late consolation goal to make it 6-1 from a Vicky Smith pass which Emma Hurworth volleyed into the top corner. It was too late for Mullion though and Torpoint head for the final.
