MEMBERS of Penryn town council did not expect to have an election this year but a last minute nomination means there will now be one.
It was initially thought there would not be an election because the council had the right number of nominees for the number of seats.
But at the eleventh hour another person was nominated and if no-one withdraws by noon today there will be an election on May 3.
The late nomination was for Ted Dunstan, of Orchard Vale in Flushing, who is a member of the Mebyon Kernow party.
There will, however, not be an election to fill the positions of district council representatives as there are already three nominees for three available seats.
Kevin Paul, town clerk, said: "Unless someone pulls out it looks like we will be having an election. But because there will not be a district election the cost of the election will not be shared and it will have to be paid for by the town council."
