A fire that engulfed a shed in an area of Redruth then spread to high voltage cables.

The shed, measuring ten by 20 metres, caught alight in Sandy Lane just after 4.30pm yesterday. When three crews from Redruth and Camborne fire stations arrived they discovered the shed to be well ablaze already.

Flames were also licking the high voltage overhead cables and an electricity pole. Engineers from Western Power were called to isolate the cables.

Meanwhile, fire fighters were forced to wear breathing equipment while they tackled the fire, using two jets and a hosereel.
