PENRYN College is delighted to announce that one of their students has been chosen to receive the Diana Award for her outstanding contribution to the community.

Annabel Coot, 16, who is in Year 11 at the college was chosen for the award because of her inspirational qualities that have been demonstrated through her work at the college and surrounding community.

Annabel is a member of the College's environment club and has also been very successful in fundraising for various charities throughout the year.

Most recently she raised over £400 for Cancer Research UK after she lost her beloved grandfather to leukaemia. She has also raised awareness of environmental and animal welfare issues and has been instrumental in the promotion and implementation of recycling at the college.

Annabel said: "I was very shocked to hear that I had won the award but very proud at the same time. I could not have done wit without the help and support of the teachers, particularly Miss Hollis and Miss Morgan."

Marie Hunter, headteacher, added: "We are all very proud of Annabel and all the hard work she has done. She even convinced me to have a non-uniform day, which I don't usually like doing, and it just shows her powers of persuasion when she is raising money for a worthy cause. She really is an inspiration to the staff and students."

The Diana Award was launched nationwide in April 2000 to recognise and celebrate the outstanding contributions made by many young people to their schools and communities.

Schools and organisations in the United Kingdom can annually nominate one young person or a group of young people for an award. Since the scheme began as a pilot in September 1999, over 18,000 young people from over 3,000 organisations across the UK have received awards.
