THE growing wealth of musical talent in Cornwall was celebrated in Falmouth on Saturday night.
The Princess Pavilion hosted the first ever Cornish Live Music Awards which treated music fans to live performances from The Truths and The Noel Prior Band among others interspersed with presentations.
The winners were chosen by internet voting with electro outfit, I Say Marvin, picking up the awards for best overall band and best indie band.
Their drummer, Jim Preston-Evans, 19, from Port Isaac, said: "We all met while on a music course at Truro College and have built up a following playing gigs around Cornwall.
"It has always been our plan to get signed so we'll keep playing and doing gigs."
Vanessa Langley, the event co-ordinator from front of house productions, said: "The music scene in Cornwall is going from strength to strength and with events like this the powers that be will start to pick up on what's happening down here."
Her sentiments were shared by Christian Murison, talent scout for Relentless EMI, who presented the award for best metal band to Nato.
He said: "We are a long way from the industry in Cornwall which means we don't follow trends - it's all really fresh and exciting."
The winners were: I Say Marvin, best overall band and best indie band; Luke Toms, best solo artist; My Elvis Blackout, best rock band; Nato, best metal band; UnEntitled, best newcomer; Liam Jolly and Lee Trewhela, outstanding commitment to Cornish music, The Eden Sessions, best live event and The Princess Pavilion, best live venue.
