The driver who died in an accident near Penmount Crematorium this morning was a 23-year-old woman from Truro.
The woman, who has not yet been named, was driving a red VW Beetle car towards Carland Cross when she was involved in a collision with a white Vauxhall Movano van travelling towards Truro. She suffered fatal injuries as a result of the collision.
The 62-year-old male driver of the van, also from Truro, was treated by paramedics at the roadside but did not go to hospital.
The A39 closed both ways between the A30 junction and the A390 Tregolls Road junction in Truro, for over six hours following the accident. It was reopened at 2.30pm It has been reported that some drivers at the scene became very aggressive towards highways staff.
Police asked motorists to avoid the area as the road was likely to be closed for some time in order that a full investigation could take place. They were told that traffic in the area was heavy and congestion could be expected.
Fire crews from Truro and the rescue tender from Camborne were sent to the scene near the Crematorium. Crews gave general assistance to make the vehicles safe.
