WESTON ST JOHNS 0
TRURO CITY 0
TRURO City's most important goal of the season, promotion to the premier division of the Toolstation Western League, was duly completed when they picked up four points from their two weekend games.
The four points in itself was a bit of a surprise because although City kept a clean sheet in both games, they failed to score in their first match against Weston St Johns who are anchored at the foot of the league.
City had the chances to put the game well out of reach of the home side, but lacked a spark in front of goal. Although Stewart Yetton was rested it should have made little difference, but the longer the game went on the more frustrated City became, especially on a hard, bumpy surface.
Glynn Hooper came the nearest to scoring when his goal was disallowed for offside, but it was a game that Hooper will probably want to forget after he was red carded just before the final whistle.
The longer the game went on without a goal so Weston's confidence grew and they got their reward by becoming only the fourth team not to taste defeat against their visitors LONGWELL GREEN SPORTS 0 TRURO CITY 3 City returned to winning form at Bath Road on Sunday when they clinched promotion with a 3-0 win against Longwell Green Sports.
After the surprise result from the day before, City were left in no doubt about what was required from the fixture against Longwell Green.
They soon settled into a rhythm and took the lead after 22 minutes when Ian Gosling scored a terrific goal after he curled in a free kick off the post to give the 'keeper no chance.
The home crowd of well over 400, the biggest of the season, must have thought their side were still in with a chance when they reached the interval just one goal down, but after an even start to the second period City snapped up a crucial second goal when John Hoyles scored at the second attempt after his first effort was blocked.
Yetton, spared the skirmishes of the day before, was back in action in this game and not surprisingly weighed in with his 65th goal of the season 15 minutes from time.
There's no let up for City with a fixture away to Hengrove Athletic tomorrow followed by a visit to Bridport on Saturday and a home game against promotion hopefuls Portishead on Sunday.
