CONCERNS over youngsters throwing potentially explosive gas bottles around near Falmouth School have been allayed slightly after they were found to be fire extinguishers.

Following last week's report on the front of the Packet, the police community support officer for Trescobeas and Boslowick ward, Paul Woodward, went down straight away to the footpath at Trescobeas leading to the Lamb's Lane area to check on the situation.

There he found the fire extinguishers on the public side of the fence and returned them to Falmouth fire station for4 disposal.

Community beat manager PC Derek Bridger said there were also extinguishers on the Network Rail side of the fence which will be cleared by the fire brigade when the company carries out clearance work.

"As they were fire extinguishers it was very unlikely that they were ever going to explode," he said.

Concerns were first raised about the path last month when the Packet revealed schoolchildren were crossing the railway line to get home because it was flooded.

Now the area had dried out it had left a lot of rubbish lying about the including the fire extinguishers that were initially thought to be gas canisters.

It was reported to the town council last week by Coun Stephen Eva who had been told that children were throwing gas canisters around and he feared that child may be injured.
