WHEN Daisy Penberty celebrated her 78th birthday she didn't expect to watch her favourite rugby tean score a point for every year of her life.
Daisy was left stunned when she went to see Redruth rugby team play at home against Bradford with her friends and family - and they scored 78 points to win.
It was a "very exciting, fast moving game and we scored 12 tries and nine conversionsm whilst Bradford got one drop goal worth 3 points," she said.
"At the end of the game the score was 78-3, which is a fantastic achievement. But it was not until my friend said to me 'look at the score board Daisy, doesn't that ring a bell' that i realised they ahd won by the same number of points as years i have been alive - and on my birthday."
Daisy has been involved in the rugby club for many years now. She worked as the cook for 30 years.
Her late husband was club president for five years and her son, David Penberthy, is currently the club manager and has been for the last four years.
Daisy is an avid fan of the game and travelled to Halifax on Saturday to watch Redruth play and win by 39 points to 20.
