FLUSHING School pupils have been doing their part for environment by collecting rubbish for this year's Scrap Attack competition.

The aim of the scheme, which is run by district councils across the county, is to create awareness of a multitude of environmental issues affecting the community in a fun way.

The competition is in two parts. The first part asks the pupils to complete a litter pick to see which class finds the most amount of litter.

Mark French, headteacher at Flushing School, said: "We chose the bowling green and the beach for our litter pick and when the pupils return they will weigh what they have collected to see if they are in with a chance of winning the competition."

The second part of the competition is for pupils to create a piece of artwork out of the safer pieces of rubbish they have collected.

The school will then submit their piece of artwork and once all of the entries are in they will find out if they have won a prize.

The prizes for the winner of the litter pick is either £200 in cash and a framed certificate and the prizes for the winner of the work of art part of the competition are a winner's trophy and a public display of their piece of art.
