The sun shone on Trewennack last weekend as participants at the annual show wowed judges with over 1,000 entries from food to flowers to fruit and vegetables.

The 70th Trewennack Horticultural Show was opened by actress Jenny Agutter, who also presented prizes and cups to winning exhibitors after judges chose from 1,086 entries in nearly 200 categories.

Susan Bennetts, the show secretary, said: "The show was a great success and well supported by both exhibitors and the public.

She added: "There were 205 entries from 29 exhibitors in the children’s classes which indicates a secure future for the show.

"There were 24 entries from the Inter-Schools Challenge which was introduced this year."

Susan said the home baking entries "were of a very high standard," while the flowers "provided a beautiful display with a large variety of colours and perfumes," and "the dahlias and gladioli were particularly striking," and added that the children’s entries "showed much creative work."

Mrs Maureen Haywood and her helpers served refreshments in the chapel hall, while show chairman John Strike thanked the committee for the work they put into another successful show and the judges for giving their time.

This year saw the introduction of the Friends of Trewennack Show, and if anyone would like to become a friend or would like further information they can contact John Strike on 01326 574415.
