As the Falmouth "Save our Rec" campaign increased this week in the run-up to the local elections, members are celebrating its 120th anniversary.
This picture, from the Royal Polytechnic Society Falmouth, shows the moment the Falmouth Recreation Ground and the new pavilion was opened. The picture is thought to have been taken at the turn of the 19th-20th century.
Dave Saunby, one of the leaders of the "save our rec" group, remains confident that Carrick council, the owners, cannot sell it off for housing development.
The subject of the recreation ground's future was on the agenda for a Carrick council meeting last week but was deferred at the last minute.
The recreation ground is currently home to Falmouth Rugby Club which is planning a move to Menehay, Bickland Water.
