Les and Joan Chippett of St Day, celebrated their Diamond wedding Anniversary with a family gathering in St Ives.
The couple met in 1939 when they worked in an office for a short spell together before Les went into the Airforce in 1941.
In 1944 towards the end of his time away in India the couple got engaged and were married in the April of 1947 after Les returned in December 1946. They were married in the Emmanuel Church in Bristol on April 26, 1947 and had their honeymoon in The Porthminster Hotel in St Ives, Cornwall.
In 1953 they moved to Cornwall and have lived in the county ever since.
Les and Joan have one son, Andrew and now have six grandchildren and two great grandchildren, they have all remained in the Cornwall area.
The close family will be celebrating Les, 84 and Joan's, 83, 60 years wedding anniversary in the Porthminster Hotel, St Ives like they have done for the last ten years.
Les was a keen sportsman in his day and the couple both still play bowls at Penryn Bowling Club, and up until recently Les was treasurer of St Day Rugby Club.
As a couple they have enjoyed a wide range of travel throughout their life and although they no longer enjoy travelling to major airports they hope to get away at some point this year.
