NEWQUAY 0 HELSTON 8
HELSTON overwhelmed a poor Newquay side in what proved a one-sided Jolly's Combination League clash at Mount Wise.
The match was over as a contest as early as the 20th minute when the Blues led 3-0 courtesy of a Tony Morley hat-trick.
Helston bossed the game from the outset and after ten minutes took the lead when a ball over the top caught the home defence square and allowed Tony Morley a clear run from wide on the flank to cut in and score with a great volley into the top corner of the net.
Five minutes later Helston increased their lead when Eddie Dunn slipped a pass through a Peppermints' defence looking for an offside flag that never came. Morley, who was too alert for the back four, seized his chance and executed a perfect lob over the 'keeper to score.
Newquay found it a struggle to make any inroads into the Blues' half and their problems worsened after 20 minutes when they conceded a third goal. A cross was played into the Newquay box and as the 'keeper tried to get to the ball Morley beat him to it to poke it past him into the net.
Russell was unlucky not to notch a fourth for the Blues, but it was only a matter of time and in the 28th minute Phil Black collected a poor clearance and cut into the box before hitting his shot into the far corner of the net.
With Newquay looking to the sanctuary of the dressing room as half-time approached, they found there was no respite as Helston knocked in a fifth goal when Richard Wilkinson powered in a free header from a Russell corner.
Ian Chatfield was largely unemployed in the Blues goal as Newquay found the second half as much of a struggle as the first 45 minutes.
Ten minutes after the break Helston scored a sixth goal when Morley found Aaron Collick who turned in the box to fire his shot past the 'keeper.
Seven minutes later came the seventh goal when Black worked his way into the box and beat a defender before being brought down by another. Collick made no mistake with his spot kick.
Chatfield had to deal with a couple of ineffective free kicks by Newquay, but Helston, always looking dangerous on the break, snapped up an eighth goal 15 minutes from time when Reg Pearson was put away by Morley and rifled his shot into the corner of the net out of the reach of the goalkeeper.
Collick was denied what looked another good goal when it was debatably rules out for offside and also struck the bar, but overall the match was nothing more than a stroll for the Blues.
