The Penryn branch of the Royal British Legion has officially affiliated with the Penryn and Falmouth Sea Cadet unit during a ceremony at the Town Hall.
The cadet unit became the second group to affiliate with the legion this year, following Penryn Rotary Club, as the unit commander put pen to paper during the legion's annual general meeting.
During what was the branch's 95th AGM, officers were voted back on block with president Chaz Wenmoth, chairman Derek Williams, vice chairman Brian Plint, treasurer Helen Perry, secretary Mary May, poppy appeal organiser Gill Grant, and membership secretary Dick Monk all retaining their positions.
The chairman congratulated Matt Baringer for taking runner-up position in the county standard bearer’s competition, just a point behind the winner. Mr Williams said that the branch was very proud of Matt and his achievement.
The secretary informed members that the branch had been busy over the last year attending various church services, Penryn week including the carnival, Penryn town fair, and parades across Cornwall and Devon, in particular the armed forces days at Torpoint and Plymouth Hoe
With remembrance commemorations less than a month away, the president said members would be kept very busy and hoped that the concert with Mabe Ladies Choir at 7.30pm on November 6 at Penryn Methodist Chapel would be well attended, and that the community would once again support the poppy appeal
