Falmouth will become a naval port in the coming weeks and over the Christmas period with three Royal Fleet Auxiliaries in the docks and a Royal Navy hydrographic vessel HMS Echo expected.
RFA Argus is currently in number 2 dry dock undergoing repairs after her deployment to Sierra Leone. RFA Mounts Bay the town’s adopted ship returns in mid December closely followed by her sister ship RFA Lyme Bay returning from a highly successful deployment to the Caribbean.
Lyme Bay provided humanitarian aid to several islands in the Caribbean hit by three hurricanes. The Prime Minister David Cameron visited the ship in Jamaica to meet all involved. He said: “Your presence in this region helps provide reassurance for millions of people and I know that the vital work you do is absolutely invaluable.”
