Kehelland Trust is inviting the public to visit on Saturday, April 16, and join in activities, demonstrations and celebrations of the work done at the site.
The trust, a registered charity providing a rural horticultural setting for the support of adults with learning and/ or physical disabilities, will be holding an open day runs from 11am until 4pm, including the organisation's annual general meeting.
There will be an opportunity for young people to sign up to the second year of the supported internship scheme, which is available to anyone aged 18-25 years old with an EHCP, and covers a broad range of employment and life-skill training opportunities, both at Kehelland and through relevant, supported, off-site work experience.
Anthea Hedge, Kehelland Trust manager, is immensely proud of what the internship has achieved so far in the first year.
She said: “We have been fortunate to have been able to support seven young people this year and help them find the opportunities that inspire and motivate them and encourage independence – this is exactly what we hoped the internship would provide and we are really looking forward to year two.”
“We hope that anyone interested in applying to join the internship, will visit us on the 16th, talk to young people currently on the internship and find out more about what Kehelland can offer.”
The internship is run in partnership with Penwith Community Development Trust and has received very positive feedback from parents, carers and stakeholders.
The whole site will be open on Saturday for visitors to look around, see what the trust gets up to and meet some of the staff, trainees, trustees and volunteers. The sales area will be up and running with a large range of plants to choose from – from hanging baskets and container plants, to vegetable and herb plants, a large selection of Cornish apple and other fruit trees and bushes, herbs and perennials.
Jacqui from the bedding section will run hanging basket workshops, the Cornwall Association of Wood-turners, - who work at Kehelland every Thursday - will be offering bat box and insect house workshops and the kitchen will be serving up refreshments throughout the day.
There will be demonstrations from trainees at Kehelland, from the supported internship, and from Shallal, who support the trust with music and movement sessions every week.
Visitors will need to book for the hanging basket workshop for which there will be a charge.
