Not only did a gathering at Gweek Village Hall learn all about sustainable fish at the Helford Marine Conservation Group's annual meeting, they were actually invited to tuck into a stew made from it as well.

The event's speaker was Matt Slater, from Cornwall Wildlife Trust, whose subject was the Cornwall Good Seafood Guide website. While he was talking about it, his audience was eating a fish stew prepared by Shellfish Pig, the street-food company from Penryn.

Matt, the Trust's marine awareness officer, told the 50 people present: “Everything you are eating is sustainable and is on the Good Seafood Guide.”

He explained how the guide had been launched by the Trust working with the local fishing industry and was aimed at giving the public all the information they need to make good seafood choices. Its aim is to reconnect Cornish consumers with the people actually doing the fishing and encourage more direct sales from the boats.
