Tesco in Helston is fulfilling its motto of 'Every little helps' by urging charities to get in touch if they would like support from the store.
This can be in the form of donations but also in manpower, with teams of staff able to help out on physical projects.
Last week store members were taking part in the Helston Town Tidy and also a beach clean at Porthleven.
The supermarket has also spent £850 on a defibrillator for the store, which has been installed to the right of the customer service desk.
This was the number one request from customers when they were asked by staff what they would like to see money donated to.
The store invited Kathryn Hines, founder of the Andrew Oliver Big Heart Fund in town, to help ‘open’ the defibrillator, which is now available in emergencies for anyone suffering a heart attack.
Tomorrow Helston Tesco is also due to donate £500 to Helston Community College’s music department, to buy new violins, strings and straps.
Matthew Mill, store manager, said: “We have done a lot of research over the last three months with customers, asking what they wanted from us.
“We’re trying to be a much bigger player in the community.”
Any charity, school or organisation needing help on a project can get in touch with Mr Mill by emailing matthew.mill@uk.tesco.com
“We’re looking for ideas,” he added. “We’ll look at anything we can help with. We have got 350 people who can do anything. We’re really, really keen to get out there.”
