It has developed a reputation for being one of Falmouth's few pubs not to play music but this is all set to change if the Packet Station gets its wish.

The pub, which is part of the JD Wetherspoon chain, has applied for a regulated entertainment license that would allow them to have live and recorded music and/or dancing on its premises.

Eddie Gershon, spokesman for JD Wetherspoon, said: "The pub has been established in the town for a number of years with no music whatsoever. It doesn't mean we have to have music. It just means if we wanted to have music we could."

He explained that the music would be kept to the upstairs area of the pub and that it would have "no effect on the ground floor whatsoever."

"From our point of view the application has gone in. We'd be very pleased to be granted permission, but appreciate it's up to the local authority. Even if permission is granted, we haven't decided definitely what we would use it for. The options are being considered," he added.

Possibilities include live music events and discos, while Mr Gershon said it was likely that that recorded music would only be played from around 8pm if permission was granted.
