A young man from Falmouth is helping bring the world of tomorrow into the present day by helping to build one of the world’s most successful series of commercial robots.

Housed in an unassuming industrial unit in Penryn, Engineered Arts have spent the past 13 years designing and developing a variety of state-of-the-art robots using the talents of engineers, designers and software developers to expand their range of humanoid and semi-humanoid figures.

The latest addition to this forward-thinking team is apprentice, Brennan Carter. The former engineering student at Cornwall College said it was an “amazing opportunity to work with such a dedicated and successful team.”

He added: “Working in this high-tech environment with such futuristic equipment and producing something which people all over the world can enjoy is a real buzz.

"Growing up I always had a keen interest for tinkering and model-making and so on leaving Falmouth School, I decided to study engineering at Cornwall College to acquire both practical and theoretical knowledge.”

While he was at college Brennan applied for the apprenticeship and “it’s been the best decision I ever made.”

She added: “Our ethos has always been to recruit locally where we can and to employ the most talented people to help build on our reputation. From day one, Brennan has shown true commitment, passion and enthusiasm, bringing with him the right balance of skills and understanding acquired from his college education. Now in the workplace, we can help him to build on this and make good use of his key skills set."

Brennan added: “I’m really looking forward to developing my career here, I would definitely tell people to consider an apprenticeship. I’ve already learned so much about robotics that I would have not learned anywhere else and it’s exciting to know that robots I have helped to build are installed all over the world.”

Engineered Arts is the home to the world-renowned RoboThespian, their first and iconic robot, which has now sold more than 90 units around the world.

Known for its incredibly expressive movements and interactivity, in the early days RoboThespian once enjoyed prime position at Goonhilly Earth Station’s Future World, performing to thousands of people every week; now he can be seen across the globe in more than 30 countries.
