Plans to transform 78 acres of land around Dudnance Lane in Pool into an exciting new development for sport, leisure, health and active recreation are being finalised by CPR Regeneration, the urban regeneration company for Camborne, Pool and Redruth.
Next week (September 17), CPR Regeneration will be publishing the preferred option for developing the land which have emerged from public consultation during the summer and allowing a further three weeks for final comments.
As well as a new replacement leisure centre for Carn Brea and a new health centre, the plans include an extreme sports centre, spa, restaurants, some specialist sport and leisure retail, a new piazza and green open space to the west of Dudnance Lane. The green open space will provide opportunity for active recreation and sports and will provide a key link between Heartlands and the Red River Valley.
To the east of Dudnance Lane there are plans for a hotel and conference centre, a strategic car park, retail and some residential. At East Hill there would be office space on the main roads and some further high quality residential development adjoining Tuckingmill.
The plans have emerged from three possible options that were outlined at a series of public exhibitions during July and August which were attended by more than 1,000 people and generated almost 300 written comments.
Nigel Tipple, chief executive of CPR Regeneration, said: "The clear message from the community is that this land presents a fantastic opportunity to transform Pool and we've had a great response to the initial options we presented in the summer.
"Over the last month we've been working through those responses and the final plans reflect what local people would like to see and what we know would be achievable on the site. There are elements from all three of the original options we presented and we believe it's an exciting opportunity to bring lasting social and economic benefits to Pool."
From Monday of next week (September 17) the plans of the preferred option will be on final consultation for a further three weeks until October 8 so that local people can comment.
After any revisions the final document which will then go to Kerrier District Council for consideration and approval.
If approved the plans will take on a more formal status as a material consideration' in the determination of future planning applications, and can be used by both the public and private sector as one of a number of guides to the detailed planning and implementation stages.
From Monday the plans will be available at CPR Regeneration's website, www.cprrregeneration.co.uk and on Kerrier District Council's website at www.kerrier.gov.uk They will also be available at CPR Regeneration's reception at its offices in the Berlewen Building in Pool; at Kerrier District Council's planning reception; Camborne Library; Camborne Town Council offices; Carn Brea Parish Council offices; Redruth Town Council offices and at the Cornwall Centre in Alma Place in Redruth.
