THE Cornwall Inter Centre sent three teams to Hartland Point in North Devon to take part in the two-day Inter Centre event staged by the Torridge and District Motorcycle Club, hoping to build on their previous performance .
They weren't disappointed as all three teams performed well to show they are making good progress.
The junior team trial on Saturday attracted an entry of 23 teams with the Cornish squad finishing in tenth place. The Cornish line-up was Ross Hancock, 17, and Keelan Hancock, 14, of Bodmin; Ian Martin, 17, of St Day; Daniel Yelland, 12, of St Austell, and Sam Jeffery, 12, of Penhallow.
Ross Hancock, sixth in the A class, was the best of the Cornish team.
Team manager Robin Martin said he was delighted with the way the team performed and was impressed with their over-all display.
On Sunday it was the turn of the adults, but Cornwall were grateful to Shane Orchard of Carharrack who stepped in to replace Darren James who had to pull out at the last minute.
"The team finished 10th out of 20 which was an improvement on last year," said Martin. "I thought it was a brilliant effort and, of course, the team was very grateful to Shane for travelling at such very short notice."
The squad was Jason Lawer (Gweek), George Edyvean (St Austell), Shaun Martin (St Day), Shane Williams (Helston), and Shane Orchard (Carharrack).
The sidecar racing was a little disappointing with only nine teams taking part. Cornwall finished eighth.
"We are quite healthy for sidecar crews in Cornwall," said manager Mike Jewell. "Unfortunately, that is not the case in the rest of the country with centres having difficulty in raising teams. The only teams now competing are the very best there is, so I thought it was a good effort on our part."
The squad was Mike Jewell (St Newlyn East) and Ali Smith (Roche), Colin Lawer and Kerry Lawer (both Redruth), Paul Lawer (Redruth) and Carl Jenkins (Bodmin), and Shaun and Kelly Jewell (both Launceston).
