ILLOGAN 6

PENZANCE 1

PENZANCE departed from Illogan's Oxland Park having been beaten 6-1 in the Jolly's Combination League, but they were fortunate it wasn't double figures.

Illogan dominated the game, but if it were not for such a lethargic display would surely have ran riot.

They should have built an early lead, but in the ninth minute Craig Williams hit a cracker of a goal from 25 yards to give the goalkeeper no chance.

It wasn't until the 33rd minute that the home side added a second goal when Rob Bray's pass sprung the visitors' offside trap for Gareth Pitt to score.

Six minutes later Illogan notched a third goal when Gary Sturmey picked up Bray's pass and set up Pitt to turn and strike his shot past the 'keeper from 15 yards.

The opening ten minutes of the second half saw the home side go through the motions, but in the 57th minute a superb 45-yard pass by Aaron Clark to Martin saw the latter drill the ball past the 'keeper for a clinical finish.

The visitors' goal came under siege and it was no surprise when Illogan grabbed a fifth goal through Jason Roberts who volleyed Martin's cross past the goalkeeper.

Penzance, who refused to give up the game, pulled a goal back in the 70th minute when Sam Long nodded into an empty net.

Illogan had the final word when Ashley Kemp crossed for Martin to fire home.
