Thirty-one new jobs are being created at Gwel an Mor holiday village in Portreath as the £8 million second phase of major development on the Tregea Hill site nears completion.
Among the current intake of 16, seven have begun their duties at the newly completed Terrace restaurant and bar, which is now open to the public as well as holiday village residents and can cater for up to 70 diners. A new beauty spa, run by Eva Moskal, has also opened up alongside the restaurant.
October will see the Gwel an Mor staff rise by another 15 - to 81 - with completion of nine more holiday lodges to make a total of 58.
Three lodges with special facilities for the disabled will follow in January. That will mark the end of all development prior to the £28 million multi-activity third phase, creating a further 120 new jobs and currently the subject of a planning application.
"The opening of the restaurant heralds another major milestone in Gwel an Mor's development, underlining our determination to create a major new leisure and tourism centre on the north Cornish coast," said Gwel an Mor owner Bill Haslam.
"It is our first dining facility on site. As with all our other facilities and services, we are aiming for the five-star standard and have every confidence that The Terrace can establish a reputation as an exciting addition to Cornwall's elite core of top quality eating places.
"It has a superb location, with beautiful views out to the Atlantic, and we will be serving select wines and fine dishes which will be almost exclusively the products of Cornish suppliers."
Head chef at The Terrace is Peter Harrison, who previously owned the Pipeline restaurant in Falmouth and brings many years' experience to the kitchen team.
There will be al fresco seating for 30 diners, surrounded by newly created landscaping including a herb garden contributing to the Gwel an Mor dishes. The menu has an emphasis on Mediterranean-style food and the restaurant is of contemporary design.
Eva Moskal, a fully qualified beauty therapist previously employed in other duties on the site, has worked closely with the architects in designing the new spa.
Also open to the public as well as residents, it is offering the full range of face, body and nail treatments, with special "pamper packages" to be enjoyed in relaxing surroundings enhanced by an amazing view.
The first phase of Gwel an Mor, including 28 holiday lodges, club house, gymnasium, swimming pool and spa pool, opened last year. First phase facilities also included a children's adventure play area, croquet lawn, steam room, putting green and sauna.
The latest developments reinforce Gwel an Mor's bid to become a year-round business. The third phase plans include a dry ski slope, major new conference facility, nine-hole golf course, equestrian centre, spa, fishing lakes and 60 additional luxury holiday lodges.
