Farmers in the south west suffered another setback today as a suspected case of foot-and-mouth disease has been discovered in Surrey.
The government has set up a 10km control zone centred on the affected site near Egham, Surrey, and a pre-emptive slaughter has been ordered.
The EU has halted plans to allow Britain to export meat and diary products to the rest of Europe.
Although at present movement restrictions of animals in the south west have not been imposed, farmers will be hit by the export ban being extended.
