CARLEEN: CARLEEN AND DISTRICT: John Notley, chairman of the Carleen Village Hall, welcomed coun John Keeling, who opened the sixth annual village show and thanked all the exhibitors for their support and the committee members for all their hard work in making the show such a success. There was a record number of entries this year. Pastor Glen Chaplin drew the raffle and presented the prizes.
Art Club: The club meets every Tuesday afternoon from 1.30pm until 4pm, £1.50 per session, painting any theme and in any media. New members are always welcome. Tea, coffee and biscuits are served in the break. Contact Judy Pascoe on 01736 762791 for more details.

GODOLPHIN CROSS: METHODISTS: Organist Mavis Harper was on holiday so it was fortunate to have Sarah Fuller from Breage to conduct the service along with the whole of Breaney Sunday school children. Also Paul Benney on piano, Mary Louise Combellack on flute and Paul Combellack on base guitar, so along with Sarah on her guitar there was ample accompaniment for the hymns. Sarah covered the early instruments and music in the Bible, showing the children some sketches which they were later asked to draw, finally ending up with suggestions from the children for a whole orchestra. There was also a sketch depicting the battle of Jericho with all the children taking part with blasts from Craig Jenkin on his trumpet. The congregation enjoyed it all.
AUTUMN FOOD FESTIVAL: Good Cornish produce will be the feature over the weekend September 15/16 from 10am to 5pm at Godolphin House. As well as the speciality foods there will be crafts for children, carriage and donkey rides. Entry: £2 adults; £1.50 OAP; children under 16 free. The house and gardens will be open until September 30, after that the National Trust will be at the helm.

LEEDSTOWN: JUNIOR CHURCH: Ann Short led all-age worship at Leedstown United Methodist Church on Sunday morning. The Junior Church helped the preacher, and sang some songs that they have been learning. Lesson readers were Ruby Brown and Marjorie Blackledge. Maureen James introduced the community hymn-singing beforehand, which included some of Charles Wesley's to mark his tercentenary this year. The organist was Gerald Verran.
PRAZE-AN-BEEBLE AND NANCEGOLLAN: PRAZE HAYLE MALE CHOIR: They were well received at the Porthminster Hotel, St Ives, on Tuesday, September 4, for the last of four summer concerts for their sponsors. They are looking forward to next season and thank the Porthminster for their continuing support. On Sunday, the choir enjoyed good weather when taking part in the outdoor celebration of the restoration work at the Millpond in Hayle. The compeer, councillor John Pollard was made an hon vice president of Praze Hayle Male Choir during the event. Crowan School: Congratulations at Crowan School this week to the children who won awards at the Cornish Gorsedd: Callum, Alice, Elizabeth and Rhys. The children all looked very smart in their uniforms as they returned to school. A special hello to the new entrants in class one: Bronwen, Molly, Nathan, Eliott, Layla, Jacob, Marcus and Thomas. The first Crowan PTFA meeting of the year has been held in the school hall. Tesco school equipment coupons are once again being collected.
Events: Thursday, September 13, Camborne School Science Challenge for selected year six children; Autumn half term week, October 29; Sunday, September 16, the Crowan Ladies Guild has organised a Walk from Nancegollan starting at 2.30pm. This is combined with a cream tea at Nancegollan village hall. Cream tea £2.50; There is a Quiz Night being held at The Institute, Fore Street, Praze, on Saturday evening at 7.30pm. Teams up to six people at £2 person.
