The annual harvest service at Truro Livestock market has been postponed following the fresh outbreak of foot and mouth disease in Surrey.
"This is a terrible tragedy for all in our farming industry", said the Rev Dr Chris Blake on hearing the news of the new outbreak.
Dr Blake, the chair of the Cornwall Methodist District, was due to be the preacher at the annual Truro market service.
"The farming industry and our rural communities were at the point of looking forward to life beginning to return to normal", said Dr Blake, "but this new outbreak has come as devastating news to farmers already facing many difficulties and challenges."
Dr Blake praised the work of Bob Code, the Cornwall Agricultural Chaplain and those who work with Bob in the ecumenical chaplaincy team.
He said: "I know Bob and his team are available to offer a listening ear to anyone affected by this implications of this new outbreak and to put people in touch with practical help when this is required."
