Fire fighters were at full stretch on Sunday after more than thirty 999 calls were received about a gorse fire at Portreath which was thought to have been put out and then reignited in the middle of the night.
Firefighters from Camborne and Redruth were mobilised although the crews had difficulty gaining access to the fire. Beaters were used to extinguish about one hectare of gorse that is alight.
Two further crews were then sent from Truro and Falmouth on request of the Camborne firemen about four hectares of being alight. About 30 firefighters were at the scene and just before midnight on Sunday, most crews were able to leave the scene with damping down being carried out overnight.
But at 3.30am, firefighters were called back after the blaze reignited and at 5pm firemen from Camborne, Redruth, Perranporth and St Ives were iln attendance.
By 7pm the blaze was under control and crews from Camborne and Perranporth remained damping down.
