Churches in Falmouth under the Churches together banner are to provide a practical skills bank for single parent families. The Rev Stephen Tudgey, priest at Falmouth parish church of King Charles the Martyr told the Packet that the idea was to provide help to those who needed it and that help would range from taking people to doctors' appointmenets, changing a light bulb or helping on any other diy issue.
The service began this week and and a group of volunteers have already offered their services. Mr Tudgey said he hoped more people with various skills would join in as it was looked upon as a much needed service in the town. Particularly for those single parents without facilities or who were unable to drive or carry out work on their homes.
There would be no charge to those who lived in the immediate area but a small fee would be levied for those living outside Falmouth, he added.
The Churches Together in Falmouth had got together with Captain Chris Baldwin of the Salvation Army in order to introduce the scheme.
Those needing help can dial a freephone number 0800 0086222 as can those willing to offer their services. A message could be left, said Mr Tudgey.
