Barnstaple 53, Camborne 27
Camborne returned from North Devon with only a losing bonus point as Barnstaple pulled well clear in the second half running out winners by a convincing margin.
After falling behind to two early penalties the Cherry & Whites hit back hard to take a 10-6 lead with two unconverted tries. First Alex Ducker touched down wide out and soon after hooker Tommy Southworth picked off a wayward home line out throw to race clear before sending flanker Jordan Rose romping over.
Although Barnstaple regained the advantage with a converted score again ‘Town’ roared back with left wing Ducker crossing near the posts for David Mankee to convert.
On the half time whistle fly half Mankee stroked over a penalty to give his side a 20-13 half time lead.
Crucially early in the 2nd period the visitors could not capitalise from a lengthy spell of pressure and instead the home side broke out to level matters.
Although the Cherry & Whites led again on 50 minutes when Ducker completed his hat trick for Mankee to convert more injury problems were to dent their progress thereafter.
Barnstaple hit the visitors with a three try burst to seize control and there was to be no way back for ‘Town’
Further scores for the home side in the final quarter saw them ending with a total of 33 unanswered points and despite some spirited defence Camborne finished well beaten on the day.
