HELSTON 17pts
PERRANPORTH 5pts
THIS was a fixture that in the past has proved something of a banana skin for the Helston outfit. However, the power of the home side forwards as well as the guile of the backline would prove to be too much for the visitors in their Cornwall League I encounter.
Helston started with a series of surging drives that left Perranporth reeling. With a dominant scrum and a very effective lineout Helston quickly established both territory and possession.
Hooker Kev Boulton found himself at the core of a driving maul to score the first try and scrum half Steve Rendell crashed over from another to make the half time score 10 -0 to Helston.
Winger Colin Taylor could have added to the total, but just failed to ground the ball after a thrilling move along the back line.
In the second half Peranporth rallied to gain an unconverted try by wing Steve Toganeiry but Helston again surged up field and centre Martin Mullins crashed over close to the posts to make the conversion easy for Rendell who had just taken over the kicking duties.
All in all a very good league result which sets Helston up for the away trip to Saltash on September 29.
