THE Cornwall Cricket Umpires' Association annual training programme is to begin earlier this year with the GL6 course to take place at Truro Cricket Club on Tuesday, October 9 (7.15pm start) and following nine Tuesday evenings thereafter. Each session will be of two hours duration and a total cost of £15.
This particular course is ideal for new and experienced club umpires and those who have recently stopped playing but still wish to remain involved in the game. It is also suitable for players, parents and spectators who are keen to improve their knowledge and understanding of the Laws of Cricket.
If attendees so desire, they may take an examination at the end of the course to gain a national recognised ACU&S umpiring qualification.
With the majority of international cricket umpires nowadays being in the 35-45 age range, the CCUA is keen to encourage more younger folk to come along and embark on a successful umpiring career within the Cornwall Cricket League and possibly, future advancement to officiate at Minor County level.
For those who already possess a GL6 qualification, a four-week GL5 course will take place at the same venue from Tuesday, January 15, 2008, and GL4 course from Tuesday, February 12.
