HAYLE 1 MULLION 0
ONE goal was enough to earn Hayle Res all three points from their Jolly's Combination League encounter with Mullion at Trevassack Park.
The visitors were forced to field another different line-up, but they proved to be a resilient outfit and battled for the full 90 minutes without getting any reward.
With Steve Stone pulling the strings in midfield in the opening half, Hayle enjoyed plenty of possession, but despite Kevin Toms and Sam Charlton looking threatening they were unable to break down a solid Mullion defence.
Mullion came into the game in the second half and looked capable of pulling off a result, but Chris Snook was in equally as good form as his opposite number, Rob Rosevear, to snuff out the visitors' threat.
With 17-year-old John Leech making his debut for the visitors, Mullion showed plenty of youthful enterprise with Chris Lawrence and Darren Hill going close, but the crucial goal went to the home side.
With just 15 minutes remaining Shane Webber took on the Mullion defence and from the edge of the box gave Rosevear no chance with a good finish. It was the only goal of the game and was enough to settle the outcome.
On Saturday Mullion face Porthleven, kick off 3 pm.
Mullion: R Rosevear, S Whear, R Matthews, R Spencer, D Phillips, B Tremain, A Withey-wood, C Rosevear, D Hill, C Lawrence, J Leech. Sub: K Hanson.
