Entry numbers were up and so were the spirits of organisers at this year's Gweek Village Show.

In its 21st year, the show saw increases in all classes, with 77 adult exhibitors producing 821 exhibits and 43 children producing 84 exhibits.

Of particular note were the entries in the art section, which saw 105 exhibits - a result described by honorary show secretary Marion Ashford as "outstanding."

Numbers of entries in the photography class were also well up, with 351 exhibits - an increase of 189 from last year.

Mrs Ashford said: "It was a fantastic show. The judges were exceedingly pleased with the quality and quantity of exhibits."

She suggested that such a high increase in exhibits could be due to the amount of classes that the show offered.

Mrs Ashford, who is retiring from the post of secretary this year, added: "My thanks go to all my helpers. I'm extremely pleased with all the help I've had over the years, from helpers and officers. They have back me to the hilt."

She said she was sad to be retiring as secretary, concluding: "I shall miss it. I like organising things and meeting all the people. I just love it when the doors open to the public and they all come in and look at all the gorgeous exhibits."
