Things were getting hot and steamy in Helston and it wasn't just down to the warm September sunshine, as fire fighters washed cars in aid of charity.

There was a healthy stream of people getting into a lather at the event, which was boosted by bright blue skies and no rain.

Although more accustomed to using their hose pipes to put our fires rather than clean down cars, the fire fighters at Helston fire station proved a dab hand at removing the dirt and leaving the vehicles spotless.

The event cleaned up a healthy profit, with a total of £190 raised. This will now be donated to the Fire Service Benevolent Fund.

Keith Stringer, from Helston fire station, said: "I would like to thank everyone who supported us on Saturday and to Mill Auto for their help."

Supporters of the station were also on hand to sell tea and biscuits to those waiting for their cars to be cleaned, as well as provide refreshment to the hard-working personnel.
