Children at Mabe Community Primary School are a little more out of breath this term...but it's all good for their health.
Thanks to support from local electricity company Western Power Distribution the school now has new outdoor activities and games equipment all designed to make playtimes more active and keep pupils on the move.
Mabe School has already been awarded the 'Active Mark' for the number and quality of PE and extra activities it offers the children. It was also validated for 'Healthy School' status as part of the Government's initiatives to combat child obesity in May.Andrew Thompson, the school's PE co-ordinator explained:'We were keen to develop our lunchtime sports programme and to make sure that we were able to include children of all ages.' WPD's funding has enabled the school to buy a 'Super Huff and Puff kit' which includes equipment from hoola hoops to skipping ropes, balls and rackets plus soft play equipment for younger children.
WPD was approached for sponsorship by Mabe School Governor Jon Nebsitt, who works as an engineering technician at the company's Redruth depot and whose children attend the school.
