One of the most important events of the Second World War, the Battle of Britain, was remembered during a service in Helston.
Held at St Michael's Church, the event was organised by the Helston branch of the Royal Air Force Association (RAFA) and comprised of a service followed by a wreath laying at the sounding of the Last Post at the church's war memorial, by the main gates.
The service itself was led by Canon David Miller, of St Michael's, with the help of Rev Dorothy Noakes and Betty Booker, while the sermon was given by Rev Andy Phillips, Royal Navy chaplain from RNAS Culdrose.
Attending the event were Hugh Pierce, squadron leader on exchange with the 771 squadron at Culdrose, town mayor Ronnie Williams and councillors, as well as number of representatives from bodies including the RAF, RAFA and Royal Navy. Also attending were a number of cadets, who acted as standard bearers.
Mike Richards, chairman of the Helston branch of RAFA, said: "It went very well. The service was conducted in a very sensitive manner."
The Helston RAFA is currently celebrating its 60th year. Their next event on the calendar will be a concert at St Michael's Church, on Sunday, October 14 at 7.30pm. St Stythians Choir will be performing, with all proceeds going to the Battle of Britain Wings Association.
