A special conference to provide information about job opportunities for people with learning disabilities in Cornwall is being staged at the Alverton Manor in Truro on Wednesday, October 17th .

The "Jobs Going Forward Together" Conference is being hosted by Cornwall People First, a self advocacy group for people with learning disabilities in the county.

"The aim of the conference is to raise awareness about employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities and their families and to explore the myths, hopes and fears that surround this subject" explained Ebony Rose Thomas, Chair of Cornwall People First.

"At the end of the day we hope to agree an Action Plan for jobs in Cornwall so we can go forward together to make positive changes".

The Conference, which will run from 9.30 am to 4pm, will include presentations from Anne O'Bryan and Stephen Parr, MBE; nationally recognised experts on Supported Employment, and a number of workshop sessions and small group work.

Anne O'Bryan has more than twenty years of experience in developing, managing and improving services for individuals with learning difficulties in the United States and Europe and has written a number of books on the issue of Supported Employment.

Stephen Parr has been involved in developing services for disabled people within the public, private and voluntary sectors and was responsible for setting up Sabre Employment Ltd, one of most successful Supported Employment agencies in the UK. He was awarded the MBE for services for disabled people in 2002.
