With over 35 individual litter picks already completed, Clean Cornwall Week has undoubtedly got off to a successful start and is on track to make Cornwall a cleaner place.
Organisers, the Cornwall Litter Partnership, were keen to make sure there is something for everyone during Clean Cornwall Week and it seems that with events covering the width and breadth of the county, in towns and countryside as well as beaches, they have succeeded in their mission. The last few days has seen Cornwall spurred into action, with everyone from children to the elderly pulling on their gloves and sparing a few hours to do their bit' at a litter-pick.
Teresa Timms of VisitCornwall, member of the Cornwall Litter partnership said: "The response to Clean Cornwall Week has been fantastic with hundreds of people, both local as well as visitors, keen to help out. In addition to beach and town cleans we have also had some more unusual events such as underwater and river clean ups showing that this week has really captured peoples imagination."
But not only has Clean Cornwall Week boosted litter-picking efforts it has also brought together like-minded people to celebrate Cornwall and share their passion to make Cornwall the UK's cleanest county. And as well as feeling satisfied at having completed a good deed for the day, Clean Cornwall volunteers could be in with the chance of winning one of the exciting Clean Cornwall competition prizes on offer. Perhaps you are the most enthusiastic volunteer, the finder of the most unusual piece of rubbish or take the most imaginative litter themed photo? Check out www.cleancornwall.org for the full competition details and a list of the prizes up for grabs.
Running until Sunday September 23 there are still another 30 Clean Cornwall Week litter picks in the pipeline so if you haven't already done so you still have a chance to join the fight against litter.
