Cornwall College has received notification that three of its staff have been short listed to win a prestigious STAR Award.

The STAR Awards are a way of recognising the work of the unsung heroes who have made an outstanding contribution to the quality of learning that millions of people in England receive every day. These Awards highlight and reward the outstanding work of the 600,000 people who make the learning and skills sector in England so dynamic.

John Latham, Principal of Cornwall College said: "I am absolutely delighted that three of our staff members have made it this far, it's national recognition."

The three members of staff to be short listed are; Dr Ken Woodcock, the College's Vice Principal responsible for Planning and Higher Education, Dr Woodcock has been nominated for the Outstanding Contribution to the Development of the Further Education System Award.

Dawn Ferguson-Smith, an Adult Learning Support officer from St Austell has been nominated for the Outstanding Contribution to Learning Support Award, and Sally Alexander a Foundation Studies Lecturer based at the Saltash campus has been nominated for the Outstanding Innovation Award.

There are only 10 categories this year and those short listed will go on to a regional celebration event in October, and then attend the national ceremony in November where the overall winner of each category will be announced.

Mr Latham said: "These are individuals who have worked above and beyond the call of duty, truly exceeding expectations. These members of staff are helping to provide the skills needed to develop our workforce, drive up academic standards and help to ensure economic success in Cornwall."
