The Guardian newspaper has revealed its list of the 50 best pubs in the UK – and Cornwall makes an appearance three times.
In the “Ten of the best pubs with a view” category, Driftwood Spars at St Agnes has made the list for its “sigh-inducing view” of Trevaunance Cove, two beer gardens and own affiliated microbrewery.

The entry states: “It somehow feels like a secret despite being a short stagger downhill from the centre of the village, and generally heaving with tourists, cyclists, and motorcyclists. For the best view, clamber up past the terrace to the cast-adrift higher beer garden.”
Highlighted for praise are the ale Lou’s Brew and the pub’s Cornish mussels.
The title of “Best pub for Sunday lunch” is one that everyone has an opinion, but making the Guardian’s top ten is The Old Coastguard at Mousehole.

Heralded for its palm trees, path leading to rock pools and seats overlooking St Michael’s Mount and the Lizard Peninsula, food described as “good up-to-date brasserie fare”.
Singled out – unsurprisingly, given the category – is the £16 Sunday dish of roast rib of Cornish beef with kale, beetroot, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and red wine gravy.
Completing the hat-trick of Cornish mentions is the Hand Beer Bar & Bottle Shop in Falmouth as one of the ten best craft beer pubs.
Hand Beer Bar & Bottle Shop is in Old Brewery Yard, Falmouth
The Guardian states: “In a region dominated by St Austell brewery pubs, Falmouth is something of craft beer sanctuary (see also, pub-bookshop Beerwolf).
“A natty bar in the historic Old Brewery Yard, Hand is an 11-tap setup (two gravity-dispensed cask beers are kept in the cellar), which flies the flag for cutting-edge Cornish breweries Harbour, Verdant, and Black Flag, as well as sourcing from far and wide.”
Highlighted is the German lager Augustiner Helles.
Cornwall did not get a mention in the “Ten of the best community-run pubs” or “historic pubs” categories.
