ILLOGAN 1 TRURO CITY 4
THIS Jolly's Combination League clash centred on the three penalties awarded during the game that eventually dictated its pattern although Truro City were still good value for their win at Oxland Park Despite the visitors having a slight edge during the opening 20 minutes Illogan matched City for their football, but the game turned in the 20th minute when Craig Williams was rugby tackled as he burst through the visiting defence. The referee saw nothing wrong and the ball was moved quickly to the other end where Jason Roberts was penalised for what looked a seemingly innocuous challenge. Justin Harrington made no mistake from the spot kick.
Burrows, as he did throughout the match, made a couple of superb saves to keep Illogan in the game, but in the 29th minute Gary Sturmey shot wide after making a fine run.
A second penalty was awarded City's way in the 32nd minute after Aaron Clark slid in with a tackle with his opponent and the ball spooning up over the bar. The referee surprisingly awarded a penalty and again Harrington made no mistake.
Six minutes before half-time City tightened their grip on the game with a third goal when a cross to Jonny Ludlam was drilled into the net to give Burrows no chance.
Burrows came to Illogan's rescue at the start of the second half with a string of good saves, but after 65 minutes the home side fell further behind when Harrington completed his hat-trick with a 40-yard shot that no-one reacted to.
Illogan missed a chance in the 78th minute when Gareth Pitt scooped his shot over the bar, but they had a consolation goal five minutes from time when Roberts was fouled for Simon Ellis to score from the penalty spot.
